Senator John McCain repeatedly claims he will oppose the ban on gays and lesbians openly serving in the United States armed forces until he sees evidence that members of the military seek to change the current, “don’t ask, don’t tell,” policy. The 65,000 members of the Reserve Officers Association,(ROA) voted to end its support for the current policy of denying gays and lesbians to openly serve. A two-thirds majority(get it John, two-thirds)vote did away with the long standing policy of the organization against gays and lesbians in the service. The ROA is considered the most conservative veterans group and as recently as 2004 voted that having gays and lesbians in the armed forces was “detrimental to good order, morale, discipline, recruiting and retention.”
So, John, will you now support the President and leaders of the armed forces?
