We in America are struggling with how to confront our past, a past in our own lifetime in which those we elected to public office violated the American Constitution as well as international law and the moral foundation upon which we were raised. The Catholic Church is fortunate to have as its leader, a man who is not only of God, but speaks with the truth of everything that mankind has created in the way of human values. Appearing at the Catholic Children’s Bureau, he spoke with honesty and compassion to those who were abused by priests of the Catholic religion. He admitted that priests participated in abuse of children, and noted there were “quite a few in number.” He was quite clear the Church acknowledged what had transpired. It is personal moral damage carried out by men of the Church and we will not take one step backward ith regards with how we will deal with this problem, and the sanctions that must be imposed.”
Perhaps, Pope Francis might speak to the President of the United States and persuade him to take a similar stand with regards to violation of human rights by the CIA and the NSA. Oh, he might be joined in this stand by Bush/Cheney/Rumnsfeld!!
