Ramadan Silly Season In Denmark

Non-Muslims never tire of displaying insensitivity toward a religion whose practices they deem to be medieval or out of touch with modern life. The latest manifestation of stupidity is a recommendation by the Odense City Council in Denmark is recommending that Muslim children be encouraged not to fast during Ramadan due to fears somehow not eating during the day will be harmful to health. The Children and Youth Committee believes “children who aren’t eating during the day” will make it not “possible to lean on an empty stomach without being tired and rundown.” That is why they want to “stress to parents that it’s not an acceptable behavior.”

A a Jew who has fasted on Yom kippur and either attended or taught school, let me inform the concerned parents of this Danish community it would be wise for them to focus on their own religion instead of butting into those of others. How about an information campaign to Christian parents informing them giving children candy on Christmas will be damaging to their health?

Actually children are excempted from fasting during the Ramadan according to Islam, and childre not being fed properly DO have an impaired learning ability – for the entire month.

Remember that when moving away from the equator, the length of the day can become longer or shorter depending on the date. Fasting during daylight isn’t that much of a deal when the day is only 4 hours long, but when its 20 hours long it sure is – esp. since the children should be asleep during those 4 dark hours.

Another issue with mohammedans is that they sometimes make their girl-children wear clothing covering so much of their skin that it causes vitamin D insufficiency. Again some religious rule that according to Islam isn’t for children.

It is also observed that in school classes where most pupils are mohammedan, those who are not mohammedan or have been allowed to eat by their mohammedan parents observing the excemption for children, are being bullied for not fasting.

Do you really think a responsible society should allow parent to do things considered harmful, by that society, to their children ?

Please provide the results of any study which supports your contention. Funny, I have taught Muslim students who fasted during Ramadan and never witnessed what you believes happens.
