I was raised in the Bronx, New York City in a congressional district in which Republicans were the FOURTH party. I am 83 years old and have never voted for a Republican, even in the election for dog catcher. However, at this point in life, I am now ready to vote for a Republican dog catcher. The Republican party has convinced me that it is the party which can howl all night long like a dog. Anyway, as a confirmed member of the Democratic party, I pass along some suggestions for the coming election:
1. Have the Social Security Administration send to every American family a one page summary of what constitutes the Affordable Care Act. You know, actually ensure Americans understand the law.
2. Have the Social Security Administration send to every American the breakdown on who controls wealth in our society. You know, how 1% control 20% and 5% control 42% of the wealth in our nation.
3. Have the Social Security Administration send to every American the breakdown on who pays the Social Security tax. You know: Anyone earning up to $106,000 pays about 5%. Anyone who earns $1,000,000 pays less than one percent! Every time I give these numbers to college students they are shocked. They want to know why the Social Security tax does not apply to ALL money earned!
4. Have the Treasury Department send to every American information that our greatest growth in jobs was when taxes were HIGHER! During the booming 1950s the top tax rate was over 70%!! Heck, even under St.Ronald Reagan taxes were higher.
The main problem for Democrats has been failure to communicate to Americans.
