Rejoicing At Death-OK?

I do not know Rashad Mendenhall, the running back of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was interested in his comments concerning the death of Osama bin Laden. Mr. Mendenhall is upset because people are celebrating the death of the al-Qaeda leader. “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never heard speak. We’ve only heard one side. I believe in God. I believe we’re ALL his children. And I believe HWE is the One and ONLY judge.” These are noble words. They are words which reflect doubt as to whether or not Osama bin Laden was responsbile for the deaths of humans.

I do not know Mr. Mendenhall. I do not know his reaction to the deaths of thousands of people in Afghanistan who have died as a result of actions by followers of Osama binn Laden. Mr. Mendenhall apparently doesn’t even believe Osama was responsible for the World Trade Center disaster. “I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.” Mr. Mendenhall apparently has bought into the conspiracy theory. I have a hard time accepting his views. Has he ever condemned the brutality toward women in Congo? Has he ever uttered a word of concern for deaths in Darfur?

Mr. Mendenhall comes across as simply another believer in conspiracy. Oh, most people did not hear Adolf Hitler speak. Does Mr. Mendenhall believe there was actually a Holocaust?
