Religion And Life In France

Historically, France witnessed decades of religious conflict in which the nation was torn apart because someone was either a Catholic or Protestant or simply did not care about any form of religion. It is not surprising that France today insists on complete separation between state and organizations. All forms of religious symbols are banned from French schools and nurseries. Latest polls reveal that 86% of French people support that ban. In fact, 83% favor a ban on any form of religion in organizations. The ban includes ALL religions.

A recent Court ruling stated that an employer could not fire a Muslim woman who refused to take off her Chador. This ruling is not supported by a majority of French people, they believe an employer decides what employees wear. One wonders if an employer can insist people wear the uniform worn in the job.
