The Pentagon has begun its review of the current ban on gays and lesbians serving in the armed force as long as they keep their mouth shut about it. Two generals have been assigned the task of investigating any issues that arise from any changes, particularly as they would impact members of the military who are not gay. The fear is creating a back lash once any changes go into effect. A guiding principle that was announced by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is “to minimize disruption and polarization within the ranks, with a special attention paid to those serving in the front lines.” Any change would, of course, require action by the United States Congress.
Why is it that conservatives are concerned about the feelings of those who serve with gays and lesbians, but never with the feelings of gays and lesbians?
