Hopefully, the United States government is finally placing the interests of this nation along with the search for world peace ahead of the narrow interests of a segment of Israel society. Unfortunately, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has still to grasp that peace can be achieved if all nations display respect for the interests that lead to world peace and cooperation. It is time to cease catering to a small clique of Israel fanatics whose arrogance and refusal to acknowledge that Palestinians also have the right to an independent nation. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani once again made clear his willingness to cooperate in the quest for peace. He insisted that Iran had the right to a nuclear industry. President Obama and President Rouhani assigned their foreign policy leaders to cooperate and discuss possible solutions for avoiding a nuclear showdown.Rouhani made clear “our national interests make it imperative that we remove any and all reasonable concerns about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.”
It is rather ironic that the only Middle Eastern nation which does have atomic weapons–Israel– refuses to open its nuclear facilities to the UN while demanding that Iran take such action. It is the responsibility of the president of the United States to place world interests at the top of our agenda rather than the interests of fanatic Israel fundamentalist religious folk.
