Russia Concerned About NATO Actions

A continual issue between Russia and Western nations is evidence that American and NATO military engages in provocative actions which unduly raise fears about the security of the Russian state. Russia’s Foreign Ministry expressed its concern over a joint NATO-Ukraine naval exercise in the Black Sea and termed it another example of the Ukraine trying to secure membership in NATO which Russia opposes. Russia claims the naval exercises include intelligence work, searching for enemy submarines, and test firing of missiles. “The character of the exercises, the attempts to present them in an anti-Russian tone, and also the participation of nonregional powers cannot but create questions and a certain concern” said the Foreign Ministry.

The US sponsored anti-missile bases in Poland and the Czech Republic together with such naval exercises do not improve chances for positive relations with Russia nor do they aid forces of democracy in that country.
