The Russian(we really mean to say, “Putin”) government has reportedly signed an agreement with President Bashar al-Assad of Syria to send him36 Yak-130 planes. Last week Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrovc said his nation does not have to explain or excuse why vessels from his country delivered amunition to the repressive regime of Syria. He insisted that Russia respected international law and was not guided by “unilateral” sanctions imposed by other nations.
The Russian assumption is that Assad will prevail despite killing over 5,000 Syrians. Putin believes dictators will continue in power. Of course, if his assumption proves incorrect, a post Assad government might not forget this action. Then again, in the world of the Middle East, just offer money and you will prevail.
