Prime Minister Putin of Russia is determined to support the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. His reasons most probably stem from disliking any petty autocrat being overthrown. Who knows such action might give ideas to those in Russia who are tired of his petty rule. The Russian government warned the UN it was going too far with its new resolution that demanded Assad step aside in order to avoid “a path to civil war.” Putin does not understand why killing over 5,000 of your own people is wrong. After all, they opposed the head of the government, doesn’t that allow a ruler to defend himself?
Russia fears more pressure on Assad is simply the first step in a UN sanctioned military venture to overthrow the Syrian ruler in a reprise of Libya and Muammar Gaddafi. There are new reports of army deserters fighting their former comrades in arms. However, these rebels lack sufficient weapons to overthrow Assad. Everyone with a sense of decency knows this petty tyrant has blood on his hands, The issue is whether or not others will get blood on their hands in order to overthrow him?
