Two Russian submarines did exploratory studies of the North Pole’s seabed in search of oil and other mineral deposits. They planted a Russian flag in the seabed in preparation for a Russian announcement that will claim a large area as belonging to their nation. In response to concerns expressed about global warming issues if oil is extracted from the North Pole, Hall Ullen of the Institute of Oceanology responded: “It’s a question for 30 to 40 years from now.”
I hate to inform my Ullen, but thirty or forty years ago people said the same thing and here we are dealing with their refusal to take action. Mr. Ullen, thirty or forty years from now is now to people thirty and forty years from now.
