Pfc.Bradley Manning most probably violated Army regulations by accessing private emails and then having them divulged to the world. Most probably he should face some form of punishment. BUT, the manner in which he has been treated at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, defies any sense of proportion and logic. Forcing him to strip naked each night, having him placed in solitary confinement, and denying him access to normal facilities is a violation of human rights. After all, as of this point, prior to a trial, Manning is INNOCENT until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Army is now moving him to Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. The 150 inmates at this facility are allowed three hours each day of recreation. Let us hope Manning is given these rights. The treatement of this man has made American come across in the world as a society which denies human rights. Tell me, President Obama, is it worth it?
