Secretary Gates Blasts Russia

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates continued blaming Russia as the culprit in recent events in Georgia while conveniently ignoring the role played by Bush actions which helped to precipitate the violence. He accused Russia of “mauling and menacing small democracies” but did acknowledge contemporary Russia was not the same threat to world peace as the former Soviet Union. He also warned Russian leaders they may have achieved a Pyrrhic victory which will cost their nation in the long run. In his view, Medvedev and Putin were trying to “recapture past glory along with past territory” but it will be a costly venture into returning to olden days and tactics. “In reality, Russia’s policies are born of a grievance-based desire to dominate its near abroad, not an ideology based effort to dominate the globe.”

At no point did Gates acknowledge that Bush plans to construct missile bases on the border of Russia might have been interpreted as an act of aggression. At not point did the Republican leader admit it was Georgia’s rash actions which created the problem.

Isn’t it about time that the administration of the shrub, gives up on the foreign policy front? Don’t they have enough trouble with the domestic issues, that they would keep their mouths shut on matters of foreign policy and not foam at the mouth every time someone makes a comment or does something that the administration does not like?
I find it hard to believe that Sec. Robert Gates does not have enough on his plate already, that he has to open mouth and insert foot regarding Russia? Would it not be the prudent course for the rest of the time this administration has to work on the issues of domestic importance, that are truly pressing and sure to bring this country to the brink of collapse if not taken care of.
I would hope that the shrub and Darth Vader, would work to make this a better world than when they started, but that is wishful thinking on my part.
There is not one thing that the shrub and Darth Vader can do about Russia, other than starting war with that country, if that is there plan then continue with the outrageous rhetoric and start the war, if not then keep shut about Russia and let the next president deal with the problem.
