Hardly a day goes by without some new issue arising from the existence of Facebook or Myspace as technology not only enters our lives, but it enters the issues we consider to be controversial. The latest episode entailed an 18 year-old boy who posed as a girl on Facebook in order to trick 31 classmates into sending him naked photos of themselves and then blackmailing some in order to perform sex acts with them. Anthony Stanci was charged with five counts child enticement, two counts of second-degree assault of a child and other charges. Mr. Stanci first came to the attention of police officers when he was questioned about a bomb threat he allegedly sent to teachers.
Stanci pretended to be a girl named Kayla or Emily. After he received the photos he threatened to make them public unless the boys either performed sex acts on him or allowed him to perform sex acts on them. Stanci is one sick young man, but the boys who sent nude photos of themselves to someone they met on Facebook are also in need of some counseling and psychiatric work. A company of sickos is the only way to characterize the situation.
