Major Nidal Hasan was an officer at Ft. Hood who decided to kill a few people in the name of Allah. He is a combination of a man consumed with anger and a man who wanted to live in an industrial society and enjoy its benefits. There is scant doubt he enjoyed the good life including being able to demonstrate power as an officer and a gentleman. He is now on trial for murder and will be tried by a military court.
So, what becomes a key issue in this trial which is open and shut as to who is the murderer? His beard! Army regulations allow forced shaving of any defendant who refuses to display the right hair style on his face. Hasan demands the right to have a beard, the armed forces demand the right to only try clean shaven men.
Is this the issue of this trial? The military has made facial hair an issue.
