Soldier On Trial For Murder And Rape

War elicits in humans a range of behavior from altruistic to vicious. Steven Dale Green is accused of raping an Iraqi girl, killing her and then her family. The deaths occurred in March, 2006 during heavy fighting in Iraq. Colonel Todd Ebel, one of his commanding officers testified that he had talked with Green about losing soldiers to enemy fire and the soldier said he did not think it was fair that the enemy could dress as civilians and that American soldiers should have the right to kill them. Prosecutors say Green and fellow soldiers attacked the family in their home. After killing the girl, Green burned her body.

Colonel thomas Kunk also testified that he heard from soldiers that Americans might have been involved in the death of the family. “I either needed to prove it or disprove it.” Who knows what Green thought as he killed a girl and her family. Did he view the assault as justified because his comrades had died? Did he believe all Iraqis were responsible for the deaths of Americans? The tortured mind of this young man carries the mysteries of combat and even he may never be able to answer these questions.

This war is a new kind of war. There is no more:we in our foxhole against them in their trenches. Or we with our blue coats against them with the red ones. What our soldiers are facing is not easy. Not only you don’t know who your enemy is , but if you freak out and kill somebody with a toy gun, you will get into a court martial. On top of that you might got another trail under the International Criminal Court in La Hague and being accused of genicide or war criminal or human right violator, who knows? At this pace towards world goverment, soon we will dissolve our military court system and acknoledge international courts. After all, we let our military being commanded by a foreign commander under the Bosnia war.
Being said that, raping a girl and killing in cold blood innocent civilians is a crime here, in Irak or elsewhere. I also don’t think this guy should get away with a tortured mind justification. If proved guilty, so be it. Face it. What he did if he did, has no justification. I just hope some S.O.B don’t use it for political gain and start calling our soldiers rapists or worse. Amen.

Please read about the French war in Algeria in the 1950s and 1960s which was exactly the same as Iraq. In fact, they teach about this war at West Point. Just another example of how Republicans like you have no knowledge of history.
