The election is over and Mitt no longer is around to spout his aggressive nonsense about remaining in Afghanistan forever. It is always impressive when a man who dodged the draft during the Vietnam war is now a verbal hero for death and violence. However, the debate continues as to whether some, many, or no troops is the answer in Afghanistan. Afghan and US military officials are currently engaged in discussions as to the how many or none topic. American officials are quite clear on one point–US troops will only be subject to their Military Code and will under no conditions be tried before an Afghan court.
Sharia law will be operative in one form or another in Afghanistan and no American leader can allow US troops to defend themselves in a court run by some elderly clerics who believe women have few rights. A Status of Forces Agreement can not allow such an event to occur. If Afghan wants US troops they come with conditions.
