The hypocrisy of most Middle Eastern societies is best exemplified by recent demonstrations of protest against the killing of Osama bin Laden and the silence which reigns over the action of Bashar al-Assad who daily murders dozens of his own people. Syrian troops were sent into small villages near cities which contain protesters and they are continuing the policy of brutalization and death for anyone who opposes the current government. A human rights activist noted: “any area where there are demonstrations, the government is sending its army.” Reports indicate over 700 have been killed and nearly 10,000 sent to jail.
So, where are the Egyptian activists who proclaimed their desire for freedom? Where are the Tunisians who threw out their dictator? Of course, if some European cartoonist drew a cartoon, they would flock to the streets against western infidels. But, for some strange reason silence is the response to the death of Muslims.
I forgot. Egyptians who were yelling against Mubarak last month are now killing Christians who were at their side last month!!
We mourn all who die in the fight for freedom–Muslim, Jew, Christian, Atheist.
