Newly elected Prime Minister yingluck Shinawatra has decided Thailand needs a new approach in dealing with those who are on drugs–treatment instead of punishment. She is not only mounting a program against drugs in her nation, but has decided to treat drug addicts as patients rather than as criminals. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime recently issued a warning that manufacture of amphetamine-type drugs is soaring in Asia.
The prime minister has made clear there will not be repetition of the 2003 war oon drugs in which many addicts were killed. Finally, a common sense approach to drugs– care and love rather than hate and death!
