The Professor Who Taught Constitutional Law Scolded

Those, such as myself, who voted for Barack Obama to become president hoped his election would restore basic American principles of individual rights which had been abridged by the Bush administration which pushed through the “Patriot Act.” One can be assured that every time Congress passes a bill with the word, “Patriot” in it, the end result is violation of Constitutional rights. The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, which ironically was created by the Patriot Act to prevent terrorism has finally emerged from its silence to denounce President Obama for failing to protect human rights. It demanded that President Obama cease collecting phone calls and storing them in their alleged plan to protect us against terrorism. “The program should be ended, allowing for a transition period. Moreover, we are aware of no instance in which the program directly contributed to the discovery of a previously unknown terrorist plot” It went on to note there is only ONE instance in which the program “contributed to the identification of an unknown terrorist suspect.”

I await President Obama’s speech in which he points out there have been no terrorist actions in America since 9/11 because terrorists know we have this program and thus fear doing anything. Barack Obama should take a course from Professor Obama about Constitutional rights.
