Somewhere along the path of defending nations against the peril of “terrorists” we decided to become terrorists. Amnesty International has been urging New Zealand not to allow its soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan to turn over prisoners to the Afghan government. “We have enough evidence of systematic torture and ill-treatment in Afghani prisons.” The moral issue is whether NATO or American forces in Afghanistan and Iraq should transfer prisoners to local government security forces.
New Zealand officials insist they have not captured many Afghan terrorists and the ones they did were transferred to American forces. The issue remains that we are fighting to end the Tablian which tortures and mistreats people in order to transfer power to President Karzai whose forces torture and mistreat people. A conundrum. Will it ever be resolved?
