Secretary of State John Kerry informed Congressional committees that the window for peace in the Middle East between Israel and Palestinians is about two years. “I believe the window for a two-state solution is shutting. I think we have some period of time-a year toa year and a half to two years, or it’s over.” He found support from Muslim nations in the Middle East for a two state solution. President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority agreed to refrain from seeking action by the United Nations for an eight week period. Unfortunately, years have passed, years in which American leaders refused to exert pressure on the Israel government to do anything that might result in peace.
Too many Israelis live in a world of fantasy. They actually believe one can havea modern democratic society in which one group has all the power and the other group has nothing. Israel wants to be recognized as a “Jewish state” even though 20% of the people are Muslim or Christian. OK, Israel, how about recognizing the US as a “Christian state?”
