The European Union emerged from the debris and slaughter of World War II when nations that had suffered decided it was time to end war on their continent. During the past forty years, the EU has developed institutions, it has created an administrative staff to handle continent issues and problems. It has created a court system that ensures respect for human rights. UK Prime Minister David Cameron has doubts whether or not his nation should remain part of this entity. He is planning a referendum as to whether England should remain part of the EU. “It is time for the British people to have their say. It is time for us to settle this question about Britain and Europe.”
French and German leaders made clear to Cameron that England could not pick and choose which EU regulations of procedures could be kept and which could be ignorned. England was either in or out of the EU. Hopefully, the people of England have more common sense than does David Cameron.
