The world of 2011 is one in which those with wealth are protected because if wealthy people become upset they will cease being “job creators.” Of course, those who attend college really don’t need much protection because they are job seekers, not creators. Thousands of British students marched through the streets of London demanding an end to reducing funding for universities and a roll back in tuition fees. Parliament has tripled the cost of an education in an English college. Scotland has not.
I was born in the Depression. New York City had four five free colleges for those who sought a college education. One could attend the day or night program. Fast forward to 2011 and the reverse has occurred.
Question: Why during the Depression in which unemployment in America hit 24%(today, 9%) did American society offer free college opportunities while today the average student leaves college heavily in debt? I’m just asking!
