Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey expressed the view of many in the military concerning the death of Osama bin Laden. There is no question that President Obama played a leading role in ensuring the operation proceeded, and was ready to accept responsibility if it failed. General Dempsey scoffed at some veterans who organized a program that claims former President George Bush deserves credit for killing the al-Qaeda leader. Scott Taylor, a former SEAL, leads this smear campaign.
General Dempsey points out, “one of the things that makes us as a profession in a democracy–in our form of democracy– that’s most important is that we remain apolitical. If someone wears the uniform, whatever uniform, for partisan politics, I’m disappointed by that. I think it ends the bond we have with the American people.”
Republicans swift boated Navy Cross winner John Kerry, and now they want to give a medal to George Bush, who avoided combat in Vietnam!
