US Rips Egypt For Arrests Of Political Opponents

the United States ripped into the Egyptian government for arresting hundreds of members of the Muslim Brotherhood at a time when many are engaged in upcoming elections. “We are concerned,” said the US comment, “by a continuing campaign of arrests in Egypt of individuals who are opponents of the current governing party and are involved in the upcoming local elections.” About 350 members of the Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested in the past few weeks. However, despite harsh words from the White House, Secretry of State Condoleezza Rice earlier this month waived a $1000 million freeze on American aid to Egypt which had been placed due to human rights violations. The Egyptian government responded in anger at interference in their internal affairs.

The Bush administration continues insisting democracy is the path to stability in the Middle East. China retains its authoritarian style government as it slowly moves ahead and it is expected over time the enormous economic development of that nation eventually will result in development of a democratic society. Bush reacted with fury when Hamas won an election and refused to invite them to the Annapolis Conference, but now, he wants the Muslim Brotherhood, whose platform is not that far different from Hamas, to be accorded an opportunity to win an election. If they win, will Bush recognize their victory?

    It’s better to laugh than to cry. The US government has some nerve for the comments to the Egyptian government regarding the arrest and detention of dissidents. With the laws now slanted in the governments favour, Americans are more than likely to be arrested and detained without trial and without the right to see counsel than ever before. Soon there will be no more dissent from the governments policies, HR 1955 makes it very clear that those who by violence and or force, can be arrested and detained without the rights of trial and counsel for the duration of the conflict of the war on terror. This in our country or any country for that matter is an abomination of the worst kind and the violation of the most basic civil rights that are accorded to us in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We in America, are now faced with the prospect of a fascist and repressive state the likes of which has not been seen on the earth. We are fast losing everything that has made America great, and we are becoming Amerikkka, no more the land of the free and the home of the brave. Like China there will be no freedom of the press, there will be no right for the citizens to ask for redress from the courts for wrongs done by the government, and most of all the person who steps out of line, causes people to think and ask questions of the governmental policies, will face internment and disappearance from the face of the earth. What we have greatly feared has come upon us, we are now and are rapidly becoming that which we despise, oppressive and repressive; regimes which commit horrible acts against human dignity and basic human rights are the ones that the bill HR 1955 have copied and this bill has already passed the House by a margin of 404-6. Take a stand and call and email and write your senators, tell them that you stand firmly against this bill and will not “cotton” the removal of your liberties for the “peace and security” that this administration wishes to bring.

    Why is it that people proclaim on the Internet which gives them access to millions of readers, that America is fast becoming a fascist state? There is absolutely no evidence of the presence within the American federal or state governments that anyone has the capability or desire to do as you. There is no indication the Amercan armed forces contain any such leadership group. Where will the armed forces come from that will do as you predict?
