US Warns Of Afghanistan Violence

A top US general in Afghanistan warned there was danger of extensive violence during the celebration of the nation’s Independence Day. General Jeffrey Schloesser said there was “credible evidence” of potential Taliban attacks. “We recommend to all Afghans to be vigilant at large public events and other locations where crowds gather and report suspicious behavior to security forces.” It is unusual for American military leaders to make such public warnings which may indicate there is evidence the Taliban are promising attacks.

During the past few days over 60 people have been killed as a result of terrorist activity in virtually all parts of Afghanistan. A basic problem facing the Afghan government is they may be able to halt violence for a day or a week, but it cannot continue having such large forces on duty every day of the year.
