Vets In Congress

During most of the 20th century the United States Congress contained dozens of men who had either fought in wars including front line combat or served in some military capacity. These experiences made them aware of how the military wastes and wastes and  always wants more and more. The only president in the past half century who actually reduced military expenses was Dwight Eisenhower, former commander of US and British soldiers in WWII.

There are about 90 veterans serving in Congress although it is doubtful if many actually were in combat durng their service. Few are aware of how military minds think. After all, it was Eisenhower who warned about the military/industrial complex. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer Americans understand how those in the military think. This lack leads to more and more money for the armed forces.
