Rape charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former head of the International Monetary Fund, appear to be quickly unraveling and the judge released him without bail. The District Attorney;s office apparently encountered changes in the story told by the maid about the alleged rape attacks. There are also reports investigators uncovered about $100,000 of dirty money she possessed that was placed in several bank accounts. Police continue to insist there was evidence of a rap. Prosecutors continue to insist the man from France is a rapist, but the judge allowed him to keep his bail money and allowed him to wander anywhere he desires in the USA.
As in so many cases of rape, it all too often comes down to a clash of what happened. There are two possible tragedies in this case. One is Dominique Strauss-Kahn who may have been charged with a crime not committed, or the maid who may or may not have been raped. In the meantime, the world will hold its breath about the outcome of this story.
