Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul is being pressured by Turkish military leaders for permission to launch an attack upon Kurdistan rebels who are hiding in Iraq. Gul warned if Iraq or the United States can’t control the rebels, “we may make the decision to go in.”
The growing tension between the Kurds and Turkish military is another manifestation of America’s disastrous policies in Iraq. Any expert could have forseen that taking over Iraq placed America in the middle of a Kurd-Turkish conflict. Does Bush or anyone in the State Department have any plans on how to handle a Turkish air strike in Kurdistan or ground troops crossing the border? I doubt it.
