Once upon a time, a long, long time ago in the United States there were political leaders who regarded themselveds as “liberals.”And, there were political leaders who believed that to be a “Conservative”meant that one believed in the basic principles of the Constitution. CIA designate John Brennan appeared in Congress to defend the ideas of President Obama concerning use of drones. He defended the murder of an American citizen in Yemen, one Anwar al-Alawki, who is an acknowledged terrorist. “He was intimately involved in activities to kill innocent men, women, and children, mostly Americans.”
Senate Intelligence Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein insisted that members of her committee had been able to visit CIA headquarters and observe activities. Un fortunately, some Republicans focused on charges that John Brennan had leaked classified information. The central issues are: (1) innocent civilians are also being murdered because they are in the line of fire, (2) many drone attacks are based on “assumptions,” that may or may not be accurate, (3) the Constitution does not give the President power over life and death, that belongs to the judiciary.
