A recent story Newseeek’s Joe Kleinabout his trip across America in which he talked with a range of people about their feelings revealed very powerfully the fundamental fault of the Obama administration– no one knows what it has done and no one knows what are the goals of this administration. I am certain President Obama would respond to the last sentence by emphasizing he has told the media about his program and his success. The bottom line is the American people lack any understanding of the health care law or the stimulus package. Republicans attack Obama and the response is –silence. There is something in the psychology of the president which regards getting into the ring with Republicans to be distasteful. He prefers standing above the dirty aspects of politics. There is one thing for certain about Barack Obama, he lacks the fighting instincts of Franklin Roosevelt, of Harry Truman and of John Kennedy. Neither of those leaders stood aside from political frays, but plunged in with vigor and eloquence. Obama is the boy who does not wish to dirty his hands confronting the bully, but quietly walks away in order to avoid a fight. In 1948, Harry Truman was behind in every poll, so he got on a train and visited America and in so doing earned the title of, “Give em Hell” Harry. He denounced the “do nothing” Republican Congress. And, what does Obama do about the current, “do nothing Congress?” The answer is clear–NOTHING!
Democrats will lose in this election and the reason is clear– a do nothing Barack Obama who has refused to stand up against Republican bullies. A do nothing Obama who has refused to clearly and concisely articulate accomplishments of the Democratic party in Congress. He will emerge from the election with clean hands-and a Republican Congress. As Theodore Roosevelt once described an opponent: “he has the backbone of a chocolate eclair.”
