I recently had a conversation with an 18 year old American who explained why he hates Obamacare. Like so many members of the Republican party his insightful comments and observations on the state of American society compelled me to write down these words of wisdom. The conversation went something like this:
Joe I hate Obamacare
Me What exactly about Obamacare upsets you?
Joe I don’t like the government telling me what to do.
Me I guess you have health insurance, is that it, and don’t want to get into this new program?
Joe: No, I don’t have health insurance because I can’t afford it.
Me If you don’t have health insurance, don’t you want it?
Joe Yes, I want it but I don’t want the government telling me to get it.
Me Well, if you don’t have health insurance, won’t it make sense to get it?
Joe Yes, I want health insurance, but no government is going to tell me to get it.
Me What if you get sick?
Joe I know lots of people who go to the Emergency Room
Me But, that means the rest of us pay for your health care?
Joe Yes, but the government does not tell me what to do.
I decided to go home and take a cold shower
